Keenan West is a youth motivational speaker and vocalist from Cincinnati, Ohio, who started singing in church at the age of nine. While attending The University of Cincinnati, he coached basketball at his alma mater Northwest High School. West then switched his focus to a career in music.
Most recently, West wrote and recorded a song entitled “Never Ever.” In the spring of 2012, he partnered with Greater Cincinnati junior high and high school students to produce and record a very powerful anti-bullying music video for the song. The video grabbed the attention of several anti-bullying organizations, as well as many schools all over the country that all shared a passion and advocacy for putting an end to the bullying epidemic; soon after, they began requesting he come speak to youth across the country. After the release of the music video, which currently has more than 200,000 views on YouTube, West saw the need for young people across America to experience a movement and a different kind of anti bullying/youth motivational assembly. After doing much research, Keenan partnered with several anti-bullying and youth motivational organizations, such as the Warren County Violence Free Coalition, Pacer’s National Bully Prevention Center and Michigan’s Attorney General Bill Schuette, and officially launched his anti-bullying/youth motivational speaking career.
This school year, Keenan is proud to be partnered with Secret Deodorants Mean Stinks anti-bullying program to bring an end to bullying and mean behavior. With their support, Keenan will bring the Secret Mean Stinks Nicest. Tour. Ever. assemblies to over 100 schools across the country during the 14/15 school year. The anti-bullying performance is 60 minutes long and combines pop-culture inspired videos, (“Never Ever” Bully Prevention Music Video) music, and dance with Secret Mean Stinks’ and The Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s proven anti-bullying curriculum. This powerful and thought-provoking motivational message engages students and helps them take ownership of bringing an end to bullying at their school and among their friends. As a recording artist, West wanted his voice to be heard to not only to raise awareness of the issue of bullying, but also to highlight and celebrate the kids that have taken it on themselves and found the courage to stand up against mean behavior. Following a Secret Mean Stinks Nicest. Tour. Ever. assembly, students will not only walk away with tangible ways to combat bullying, but also a newfound sense of unity amongst their peers.
In 2014, West began speaking to youth outside the school system at events like the Children’s Hospital Medical Center/Heart Institute’s Campy Joyful Hearts, where he presented to children with heart disease, and The Cincinnati Reds Rookie Success League, educating young boys and girls on the importance of respect.
West is also the founder of Kee Educational Concepts, and is currently writing, producing and directing more music videos to inspire today’s youth.
